McGee bags a hat-trick of wins at the KDM Hire Cookstown 100

Derek McGee secured a convincing hat-trick of victories at Saturday’s race meetings in Cookstown, with Derek Sheils and Adam McLean also claiming top spots in an action-packed day of racing.

In a rescheduled race programme the wind and rain provided challenging racing conditions for the Friday and early Saturday races on the 2.1-mile course.

The weather, however, did not slow Derek McGee in race one on Saturday morning beating Nigel Moore to the line by 2.867s in the Moto 3/Supersport 300 race. McGee, racing for KMR Kawasaki Racing followed this with another win in the Hayes Fuels Supertwin/Supermono A race with only half a second separating him from Adam McLean with Michael Sweeney in third.

McGee completed his hat-trick winning the KDM Hire Cookstown 100 A race which was interrupted twice by the red flag due to two minor incidents. McGee’s win ended Derek Sheils dominant run in this class over the past few years.

Adan McLean, racing for McAdoo Kawasaki Racing was able to edge out McGee in a great battle for the top spot in Saturday’s Supersport meeting while Paul Jordan claimed the third spot on the podium.

Derek Sheils, racing for Burrows Engineering claimed the top spot convincingly by 3.3s in the Open A race onboard the 1000cc Suzuki with McLean and McGee scrambling for second place in a great contest. McGee finishing second and McLean in third.

Another successful outing for the KDM Hire Cookstown 100 getting the road racing calendar off to a flying start.
