Hyster-Yale UK - 5 year contract hire
Client: Hyster-Yale UK
Project: 5 year contract hire of access equipment
Site: Portadown Manufacturing Plant
Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. is a New York stock exchange listed company which, through its wholly owned operating company, Hyster-Yale Group, designs, manufactures and sells two of the world’s most successful forklift truck brands - Hyster® and Yale®. Its Craigavon manufacturing plant requires regular maintenance and some of the work has to be undertaken at heights of up to 10m. To facilitate this work, Hyster-Yale Group historically operated two electrically powered access platforms. These machines were of an age that they had become unreliable and expensive to maintain.
KDM Hire Ltd has been a supplier to Hyster-Yale UK for a number of years providing access platforms and various other types of equipment during peak periods and maintenance shutdowns. We were asked to evaluate their two access platforms to ascertain if they were safe to use and economical to retain. We were invited to tender for replacement machines either on a long-term contract hire or on an outright purchase basis. Our report recommended that one of the machines needed to be replaced immediately, and concluded that both machines were past their useful life cycle. Two new machines were duly provided on a five 5 year contract hire including maintenance and all statutory inspections.
Hyster-Yale UK received a transparent and independent report on this equipment followed by various financial options on how to replace these machines. Committing to a contract hire of five years allowed Hyster-Yale UK to fix their costs excluding any accidental damage. Hyster-Yale UK has the reassurance that the machines will be maintained to a high standard and that all statutory safety inspections are undertaken without additional cost. In the event of a machine failure, Hyster-Yale UK is assured that the machine will be repaired or temporarily replaced within a short time frame.
